Opened in April 2006, the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal offers a second streamlined gateway to New York City, set along the historic Red Hook waterfront with sweeping views of Lower Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty. The terminal offers 200,000 square feet of flexible terminal space, modern gangways, separate bus stalls, and ample parking. Dedicated embarkation and debarkation areas allow passengers to board without waiting.

Red Hook features a vibrant mix of restaurants, retailers, and artists’ studios just steps away from the terminal, along with quick NYC Ferry service to Wall Street/Pier 11.

A Leader in Shore Power Technology

Shore power allows cruise ships to plug into the local electrical grid while docked, enabling them to shut down their diesel engines and reduce local emissions. Thanks to local advocacy by the Red Hook community and regional coordination, BCT became the first port on the east coast to have shore power in 2016. Globally, BCT is one of only 33 cruise terminals to have shore power; in the entire world only three percent of all cruise terminals have this ability. The early adoption of this technology displays New York’s commitment to the electrification and sustainability of the waterfront.

Shore Power at BCT

BCT is one of 33 cruise terminals worldwide with shore power technology, allowing cruise ships to connect to the local power grid when docked.

As part of an ongoing commitment to sustainability and compliance with Local Law 54, NYCEDC continues to advance shore power at the BCT, enabling more ships to plug in and eliminate emissions while at berth. Made possible through the deployment of a Mobile Cable Positioning System and additional connection points along the length of the berth—important investments that provide necessary flexibility and expand ship compatibility across berths—the MSC Meraviglia has successfully connected to the shore power system, joining Cunard and Princess Cruises who both began regularly connecting in 2016.
